Airsoft3D now has license from Shapeways and Valves to product Team Fortress 2 airsoft parts. It's a great time to take advantage of this license agreement to build yourself the Cleaner's Carbine for airsoft. The Cleaner's Carbine is a secondary weapon for the Sniper class in TF2. It is a small, black submachine gun with a large suppressor, a charging handle, iron sights, and a folding skeletal stock.
We have recently designed several off-the-shelf parts that you can quickly and easily attach to your standard M4 airsoft gun to replicate the famous TF2 SMG. In this case, we wanted to build it out of a standard airsoft M4 to remain compatible with standard M4 airsoft parts. See a rotate-able, interactive 3D model.

The base of this gun could be any standard M4. The M4 airsoft gun is so popular that you may even have one or two sitting around waiting to be modified into the Cleaner's Carbine. If you don't already have a M4 airsoft gun, you can either buy one to modify, or build the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine from scratch. For example, the Black Ops M4 Viper Mk5 Airsoft AEG Rifle on Amazon could be the base. Photo below is the Black Ops M4 Viper Mk5.

For this build, you'll need the M4 upper and lower receiver. You can find assorted M4 receivers from airsoft retailers like Evike. The following is a photo of a upper and a lower receiver.
Because the silencer is very close to the receiver, you'll need a stubby outer barrel for M4. You can find assortment of stubby barrels at Evike by searching for "stubby m4 outer barrel". The following photo is an example of a stubby outer barrel.
You'll need a delta ring to fix the stubby barrel onto the M4 receiver. Your M4 airsoft gun already has a ring that keeps the barrel on the receiver, so you can just reuse that ring. But if you are building it from scratch, you can get the delta ring from Evike as well. The following is an example of the delta ring.
Once you have these parts, it's a matter of putting it together. Insert the stubby barrel into the upper receiver. Then tighten it down with the delta ring. Now you just need to screw the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine Silencer onto the front of the M4 outer barrel. The silencer has an indented dot above the attachment point. The dot indicates top of the silencer. Align the silencer so that the dot is center toward top of the gun. The model below shows the indented dot.
With the stubby barrel and the silencer on the gun, you can now determine the correct length of the inner barrel. Internal airsoft modification is beyond the scope of this article. If you are unfamiliar with internal airsoft gun mods, look for resources and help on this web site.
Now it's time to attach the shoulder stock. The M4 Receiver Picatinny Mount Adapter attaches to the back of the lower receiver. It attaches to the receiver like any other M4 buffer tube. The screw for the buffer tube should be sufficient for attaching the adapter. The photo below shows that the sling mount go on the M4 receiver before the adapter. If your M4 is rear wired, you'll need to route the wiring through the sling mount and adapter.
Once the M4 Receiver Picatinny Mount Adapter is secured onto the receiver, you can attach the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine Shoulder Stock to the adapter. The interface is Picatinny rail and mount. So you secure the two just like any Picatinny accessory.
The same applies to the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine Iron Sights. They uses standard Picatinny interface, so they attach like many accessories on the market.
If you have keen eyes, you probably noticed that the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine have a long stick magazine, whereas the M4 has shorter, wider, and curved magazines. The M4 magazine just wouldn't be a good fit on the Cleaner's Carbine.
Luckily there are MP5 9mm magazine are long, straight, and skinny-like. And because 9mm magazine mods are common for real steel M4 carbines, there is an airsoft converter to use MP5 magazines on M4 carbines. Evike sells the Angel Custom AP10 Adapter, which serves this purpose exactly. The following is a photo of the AP10 adapter and a straight MP5 magazine.

The straight magazine in this package looks exactly like the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine Magazine. Except it's got two round knobs on the side. You can cut them off and paint the magazine black to serve build the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine.
The AP10 adapter inserts directly into the M4 magazine well with no modification for most M4 rifles. And the straight MP5 magazine inserts into that, making your M4 look like the TF2 Cleaner's Carbine.
