Airsoft and paintball grenades aren't cheap. Their shells are generally one time use items, so you have to buy more shells as you use them up. But there are several ways to keep grenade shell costs down, while still being effective with grenade tactics.
On many fields, only the Thunder B grenades can be used. The Thunder B grenades uses CO2 internally. When it "explodes", it lets out the entire CO2 canister, which blows the shell and makes a big bang sound.
On fields where the Thunder B grenades serve only as a distraction--no "death"--they bring to question just how effect they are. On fields like these, Thunder B grenades do not translate well into the real world. After all, why would anyone be afraid of grenades that they know won't kill them. Nevertheless, you can keep some undamaged Thunder B shells on you. Toss them out as dummies. When the enemies are distracted by the dummy grenades in the air, watching them land, that is your chance to rush. You can then retrieve these grenades after the game for reuse. This tactic works best with the uninitiated.
On fields where Thunder B grenades have a "kill" radius, all players are afraid of them. Because they mean "death". Dummy grenades works best on these fields. As enemies sees the dummy grenades flying at them, they have to assume they are the real things and take action--run for their lives or jump on it to save their comrades. Again, this is the time for your team to rush.
Fields that allows the use of other grenades that either spray BB's or spray paint that "kills" on contacts are great places for dummy grenade tactics as well. In these situation, you can use dummy grenades in the same manner as the Thunder B grenades on the "killing" field situation.
