Re-Brands
AY VSS Vintorez AEG has just been released in the United States. From the photos and the specs, the AY Vintorez is identical to the Echo1 Red Star IGOR. Both the AY VSS Vintorez and the Echo1 Red Star IGOR are re-branded S&T VSS AEG ST-AEG-21. Therefore, this article should apply to these other brands as well.
Normally, I'd provide disassembly for each airsoft gun I own. However, Brian @ Echo1 has provided really wonderful disassembly instruction in this YouTube video:
So, in this article, instead of duplicating Brian's work. I direct you to watch the video above for the general disassembly instruction. Instead, I will provide details that may be missing from the video and provide disassembly instructions for parts not described in the video.
Cross-Reference
Are you interested in the complete disassembly of the Echo1 Red Star IGOR parts? Take a look in our "Complete Tear Down of the Echo1 Red Star IGOR VSS Vintorez" article.
To remove the front iron sight, unscrew the elevation adjustment screw using an elevation adjustment tool or a pair of pliers. I used the latter. You will loose your elevation adjustment when you perform this disassembly.
Once you have removed the elevation adjustment screw, you'll reveal a Phillips screw underneath (see photo above). Unscrew the Phillips screw and remove the front iron sight.
To remove the orange tip, you'll need to first remove the front iron sight (see previous section). Next, you'll have to punch out the tiny dowel that is at the bottom of the mock silencer (see photo below).
Once the dowel pin is punched out, the orange tip is readily removable (no glue). Following photo shows all the pieces.
The mock silencer is threaded on the inside (see photo below). Not sure what is the diameter or the pitch though.
Brian did not disassemble the Echo1 Red Star IGOR magazine. I had already done it once. So here are the instructions for it.
There is a hex screw at the bottom of the magazine (see photo below). I used a T9 precision Torx screwdriver to unscrew it.
Once you have unscrew the bottom plate, you can simply side it off the magazine (see photo below). It's actually unnecessary to remove the plate from the magazine.
Then you can remove the magazine insert from the top of the magazine. Photo below shows the major Echo1 Red Star IGOR magazine components.
As Brian shows in the video, three are two hex screws that holds the mock silencer onto the gun. You'll need 3mm hex wrench to remove those screws. There is a silver washer on each screw. The silver washer makes the screw a little too short. Therefore, when you put the screw back, you can do away with the washers.
When reassembling the mock silencer, if it doesn't go back all the way to the receiver, it's probably the external barrel getting caught on the orange tip. Use your finger to realign the external barrel to the tip and you'll be able to push the mock silence back in place.
