Many folks claim that the softer airsoft BB cannot break the harder glass. Yet, there are many reports of red dot sight and scopes lenses being broken in airsoft battles. So then one of the believe cannot be true. Which one is it?
I decided to perform an experiment. The experiment involves shooting glass--microscope glass slide to be exact--with airsoft BB's at various velocity. The experiment is to simulate a red dot sight by placing the microscope slide in the center of a dumbbell weight. the dumbbell weight center hole will act as the red dot sight frame.
In the experiment, I used a APS ASR106 Mini Patriot M4 AEG that chrono'ed at 285 FPS, a Colt 1911 Target spring pistol that shoots 150 FPS, and a Cyma CM023 MP5 LPEG that shoots 117 FPS. The ammunition is Evike Professional Grade 6MM 0.2g Airsoft BB.
So what is the result of the experiment? I've recorded the experiment on a video. Watch this video:

I had two fluorescent light tubes that no longer works. Over the weekend, I decided to have a bit of plinking fun. Take a look at what a ~277 FPS AEG with 0.2g BB's can do these light bulbs at 30':

Excerpt: If you're looking to protect your scopes take a look at these: Butler Creek Blizzard See Thru Scope Cover, Size #5 (1.60 to 1.69-Inch) Not sure how much punishment they can take but they can prevent a bb or two from breaking your scope. Be sure to check size chart for proper fit.
